FAQ and terms
Do I get the design files?
Yes, when your prototypes ship. The bundle for each revision has the KiCad project (schematic and PCB, the same files the board is built from), the default configuration and how to restore it, a STEP model for your CAD, and a short pinout and ratings sheet.
Before then, previews show renders only. The base designs are Apache 2.0, so the bundle keeps their license and notice. Boards built elsewhere from the bundle aren't moteus boards: they get no warranty and no free support.
How is each board tested?
Every unit goes through the same end-of-line test as a standard moteus, on a fixture made for your outline, and gets its own test record you can look up from the QR code on the board.
The first lot of a new design also gets a first-article bringup: current-limited power-on, rails, flashing, calibration on a reference motor, the encoders, CAN or UART, every aux function you kept, each connector mated with a real cable, a short thermal soak at the stated continuous current, and a fit check against your STEP if you sent one.
What is guaranteed?
- The board does what its base board does, minus the features you removed.
- Every unit we ship has passed the end-of-line test.
- If the design is at fault, we re-spin it at our cost, and nothing ships from the broken revision.
- The same 12-month warranty as standard boards, for units mjbots builds and tests.
Not covered: fit, which you approve before the build; continuous current beyond the stated, derated rating; and your own environment.
How many prototype boards do I get?
A prototype lot guarantees 5 boards. We build 10, and every passing board beyond your order ships with it at no charge. If fewer than 5 pass, the passing ones ship straight away and the missing ones are refunded, or made up in the next build if you prefer.
When am I charged, and can I cancel?
Your card is authorized when you order and charged when our design review is done (or before the authorization would expire). Until you approve the final design you can cancel for a full refund. Once you approve it and it goes to the board house, the order can't be cancelled or returned.
Production quantities open once the prototypes pass bringup and you accept the fit (or 30 days after they ship).
How long does it take?
Prototypes in about 4 weeks: 3–5 business days of design, about 10 days at the board house, 1–2 days of bringup, then shipping. Each order shows an estimated date for every stage; they're estimates and get updated as the build moves.
Who owns the design, and what happens to my data?
You own your outline, artwork and spec; mjbots owns the layout engine, its guidelines and the base designs. We don't publish your design without your consent, and an NDA is available. Some of the design work uses AI tools; the final terms will say what is processed and how long it's kept.
Can I upload my own CAD?
Yes: DXF files are read in your browser. Other files (STEP, PDF drawings, photos of a sketch) and your notes are read by AI models in an isolated sandbox, and you check the result before anything uses it. Files you upload are kept with your design and aren't used to train AI models.
What about support?
The same support as standard boards, as long as the units come from mjbots.
